Not all pets under condo site urning to be free

I'm no expert on these matters, but I'm pretty sure that having a condo built on top of a pet cemetery might be unsettling for everybody concerned.

I'm talking about the Paradise Pet Ranch in suburban Lake Worth. The weed-strewn pet cemetery has been sold to a developer who is going to put a condo over the animals' graves, that is, unless you want to come and dig up your pet before the construction starts.

There were early signs, like when her son, Perry, who is 7, started talking seriously about buying a piano. Or when his friends started organizing sled races, even though temperatures in their northern California neighborhood were climbing into the 60s. But GraceAnn Stewart did not use the word obsession until the day a few weeks ago when Perry asked her to make his school day longer.

Dog killer spared petless life

A convicted puppy killer who agreed as part of his punishment never to own pets again didn't wind up with a lifetime ban after all.

A judge Thursday sentenced Kimanie Markeys Carter, 20, to a year in the workhouse and a two-year pet ban for killing 10 puppies last summer in St. Paul.

Ramsey County District Judge William Leary III did not order the lifetime ban because it would be impossible to enforce, prosecutors said.

In addition to the workhouse time and the pet ban, Leary also ordered two years of probation, a stayed 18-month prison sentence, a psychological evaluation and behavioral counseling.

"We would strongly prefer that the defendant in this case never own or possess a pet, but we understand the judge's decision," Ramsey County Attorney Chief of Staff Jack Rhodes said.

Interior designer fashions living spaces for the 4-legged family ...

When Eva Chugaman embarked upon a project to redecorate the formal living room of her north Scottsdale home, the biggest obstacle was her 7-year-old beagle named Hunter. Hunter had grown accustomed to stretching out on the living room couch, and Chugaman thought if she was going to invest in new furniture for the room, she didnt want it to end up smelling like a dog. When we redecorated it was very important to me that it be a nice formal space, she says. The old couches were pretty beat up and we replaced them. That was where Hunter slept and I didnt want him on the new couches. I needed him in a separate space. Thats when she called in Suzanne Lasky, an East Valley interior designer who makes pets a special consideration in her design work. Lasky has been an interior designer for years but says about a year ago she began thinking that she needed to find a niche in the market that would set her apart from the competition.
